The Japanese Wife

Not your regular mainstream cinema, TJW is adapted from Kunal Basu's story of the same title. My first bangla movie, which i couldn't have missed given that the duo's (Aparna Sen -Director/Rahul Bose-Actor) earlier flick Mr. & Mrs. Iyer is to date one of my favorite movies. Happy to say I wasn't disappointed at all.

A romance drama, if i may call it so, revolves around Snehamoy (Rahul Bose), living in Sunderbans and Miyage (Japanese actress Chigusa Takaku) in Japan. Their love flourishes through letters and they get married in the same way. Restrained by their lives, they never get to meet but remain true to their feelings to the end. Moushomi Chaterjee (Snehamoy's Mashi) and Raima Sen (a widow with a child who comes to stay with them) have played their characters well.

The underlying story of long distance relationship might sound bizarre as it may, but have been well portrayed on screen. At times, with all the emotions (worry, jealousy, happy) being exchanged through letters, it almost feels like a real marriage. While sunderbans (and life of Snehamoy) with all its glory and wrath was picturesquely captured on camera, I would have loved to see more of Miyage's life (and Japan) on screen. Any which way, the connections was still there and there was no moment when i felt bored or drawn away from the script. So all in all, it was great to see a non-regular holly/bolly movie.

Reminiscing @ Holi

Miss a lot of things about ISB and festivities were the 2nd best about the place (friends first). All festivals went down in style at ISB and Holi was no exception. It was twice the fun last year at Holi, not simply because it usally is so on campus but since we managed to have the festivities twice, once on D-day itself and the then again the very next weekend since some people could not participate due to classes the first time. It was great to see painted faces all over in class after we were done playing the Holi, and it told me something very important about ISB. No matter where we came from, we were one and the same - we had the same things to cheer about and the same dream i.e. to make a difference to our lives and others'.

Day 1, 2010

12:00 am - Happy 2010 (feeling of hope, change and aspiration)
1:00 am - slept after reading few pages of a thriller
8:00 am - woke up (after snoozing the alarm for almost half hr)
9:30 am - left for office (why the hell are offices open on 1st day of the year)
10:00 am - reached office, office was near empty (again why??)
12:30 pm - finished whatever little work I had (little work since all other companies were closed)
1:00 pm - ate early Lunch
1:30 pm - went for a short walk
2:00 pm - had a cup of tea (not that it helped me stay awake)
2:30 pm - did some reading (TimesofIndia editorial)
3:00 pm - went for another short walk
3:30 pm - did some more reading (work related this time)
5:00 pm - after careful consideration, i realized it was better i went home (so I did)
6: 30 pm - reached home (I hate traffic)
7:00 pm - went jogging
7:45 pm - came home, had something to eat
8:15 pm - watchin Bond movie
8:45 pm - writing this blog

So much for interesting day 1 of the new year
